Omphalos

This multi-media environmental installation piece focuses on the paradoxical manner in which women are viewed in Christian religious mythos. The intention of the project is to draw attention to the power of the female energy, and cultivate a space in which contemplation of self and society is encouraged.

“Every sacred place is an omphalos. It is also the point of expansion or a principal space not yet expanded…A meeting place of heaven and earth ”

— J.C Cooper

In the shadow of those who oppose us; is self-actualization a myth? Reality is made up of our individualistic relationship with the past, present, and future. In the absence of self -reflection inauthentic personal relationships evolve, affecting the global community collectively.

On the experience of the installation:

“Centring on the participant, on a personal journey through a labyrinth in which they will come across rivers and as they get closer to the centre, the sculptural shrine to the mother goddess, they find more and more frequent rivers -connecting- them to the goddess figure. They use these natural environmental indicators to guide them to the reflection pool and statue that lays at the centre of this environmental omphalos.”
